Driver Safety Awards

Safety Awards Program for Truck Drivers

Awards and recognition can boost employee morale, increase retention, and promote safety. To help support your efforts, Great West created the Driver Safety Awards (DSA) program. Participation is free and easy!

Driver Safety Award Eligibility

To participate in the DSA program, the employer must be currently insured with Great West and attest that each driver submitted for an award meets the following criteria:

  • The driver must currently possess a valid commercial driver’s license and not be disqualified from operating a commercial motor vehicle.
  • The driver must be currently employed/leased by the motor carrier.
  • The driver must possess a clean motor vehicle record with no moving violations or preventable accidents. See Appendix B for definitions of preventable accident, moving violation, and clean MVR.
  • The driver must have driven a commercial motor vehicle without a preventable accident for the entire period specified on the DSA submission form.
  • IMPORTANT: Driver Safety Awards are based on consecutive years of driving or million-mile increments without a preventable accident. If a driver is involved in a preventable accident, their streak of consecutive years or miles ends, and they must start over at zero.

Types of Driver Awards

Great West offers insureds three types of Driver Safety Awards: certificates, challenge coins, and a million-mile plaque. Below is a description of each award and the criteria for requesting each item. If you are ready to request one or more driver safety awards, please fill out this form. Note: Awards may take up to 45 days to process and ship, so please submit your request well in advance of your intended presentation date.

Certificates of Achievement

Drivers can receive a personalized certificate of achievement acknowledging the number of consecutive years they have driven a commercial motor vehicle without a preventable accident. Currently, certificates are only available for 1 to 20 consecutive years of driving without a preventable accident. However, certificates are also included with the million-mile plaques.

Challenge Coins

Challenge coins are an excellent way for drivers to motivate others to achieve excellence. How does it work? When a driver earns a challenge coin, they can pass it on to another driver to challenge them to meet the same milestone. Drivers can earn a challenge coin and certificate for 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of consecutive driving without a preventable accident.

Million-Mile Plaques

Drivers can earn a personalized plaque and certificate for every one million consecutive miles of driving a commercial motor vehicle without a preventable accident.
